We worked with the academy principles in this two-stage, two site project, holding many discussions and engagements to understand the academies ethos and their educational needs and aspirations.
Dealing direct with end-users is sometimes preferable, of course. The extra challenge of designing for educational outcomes rather than contractors’ constraints is stimulating and very rewarding.
There’s a pragmatic difference, too - interiors work better when an FFE budget is fully deployed and high quality furniture and equipment are chosen.
The core of Archer Academy’s brief can be summed up in two words – inspiring spaces – and they will confirm that these were delivered for their library and resource centre, classrooms, ICT rooms and science labs.
More about the project
The loose FFE budget was £650,000 over both sites, comprising a refurbished existing building and a £14m new construction.
Throughout, we used the Academy’s corporate identity to help drive the colour palette and they were so pleased with our work that they asked us to continue our interpretation of their brand into external signage.
